Direct debt

The Direct Debt portfolio forms the bulk of the regional debt. It is actively managed through various types of short-, medium- and long-term financing and through the use of derivatives.


Direct Debt represents the largest share of the Brussels-Capital Region’s consolidated debt (approximately 77% at 31/12/2021).

The Direct Debt portfolio consists mainly of financing (approximately 7 billion at 31 December 2021) and derivatives used to hedge existing financing (approximately 2 billion at 31 December 2021).


Access to the secure part is provided to the financial stakeholders with which the Front Office processes financial transactions. This space is dedicated to updating open  funding requirements and to covering documentary and compliance aspects.
